Shinepukur Ceramics Corner

E-Commerce Scam

On November 18, 2024, my mother placed an order for a dinner set through a Facebook page named Shinepukur Ceramics Corner. Subsequently, on November 20, 2024, at approximately 3:30 PM, a representative from the courier service RedX contacted her, informing her that a parcel addressed to her had arrived at their logistics center. However, to facilitate home delivery, they requested that she send 2,000 BDT via Bkash, despite her having already paid a 300 BDT delivery charge through the same method. My mother contested this, asserting that the transaction was supposed to be cash on delivery (COD), but the courier insisted that the procedure differed for crockery purchases. As it was her first experience ordering a dinner set online, she complied and sent the 2,000 BDT through Bkash.

The courier confirmed receipt of the payment but stated that it was pending due to her failure to enter a delivery code. They then instructed her to send another payment, assuring her that the delivery man would reimburse her in cash upon delivery. My mother, following their instructions, sent another 2,000 BDT, only to be informed that the payment remained pending because it was made from the same Bkash number. They subsequently requested an additional payment of 2,000 BDT to a different number they provided. Sensing something was amiss, my mother inquired about the location of their courier office, which was revealed to be in the CEPZ area. Given the distance and safety concerns for a woman traveling there at night, she opted not to go.

Later, the courier representative called again, threatening that if she did not pay another 2,000 BDT from a different number, the parcel would be returned to Dhaka. My mother responded by agreeing to send it back and inquired about the process for retrieving her money. They assured her that she would receive a message and that her refund would be processed within 17 days. After waiting, on November 21, 2024, at 2:45 PM, she reached out to the same representative to inquire about her refund. The individual informed her that if she paid another 2,000 BDT, she would receive her money back. When she requested his name, he was unable to provide it clearly, which heightened her suspicions. Consequently, she contacted the RedX helpline, where the representative confirmed that no parcel had been delivered in her name, revealing that she had fallen victim to a scam
